Meet The Office
Craig A. Kraffert, MD
Board Certified Dermatologist
Trained as a biochemist and cell biologist, Craig Kraffert began his career in biomedical research at Scripps Institute in La Jolla, CA. Shortly thereafter, he studied medicine at UCLA and chose to intern in Surgery at UCLA Medical Center where he was on call all night, every other night. Dr. Kraffert’s dermatology residency at the University of Miami in Florida allowed him to benefit from what is consistently considered one of the world’s most prestigious and desirable dermatology training programs.
Dr. Kraffert is passionate about all aspects of dermatology. He sees patients five full days per week and views his mission as becoming the embodiment of the ‘Renaissance dermatologist’ – constantly striving to achieve excellence at all aspects of dermatology for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Kraffert’s clinical offices contain more than twenty fully equipped, naturally lit exam and treatment rooms which makes his the largest dermatology practice in northernmost California. Patients have a complete spectrum of modern general and aesthetic dermatology services as well as laser services, skin care consultation, phototherapy, dermatopathology, and micrographic (Mohs) surgery available to them. Dr. Kraffert is involved in research projects both for industry and independently. He lectures frequently in academic and industry forums, and has been very active in California Dermatology, recently serving as the President of CalDerm, an organization he holds the primary responsibility for renaming.
Dr. Kraffert’s entrepreneurial spirit led to the founding of DermStore.com in 1999. His vision and management brought tremendous success to DermStore which enabled him to fulfill his dream of bringing vitality back to the downtown core of his hometown, Redding, California. Once blighted, warehouses taken over by DermStore have since been resurrected by Dr. Kraffert as the Cascade Square, a high profile Art Deco complex in the center of Downtown Redding. The transformation from decay and decline into a beautiful retail and entertainment landmark has helped stimulate a revitalization that continues to this day.
In late 2007, Dr. Kraffert arranged the strategic sale of DermStore.com to allow more focus on his other skin care, dermatology, and outside interests. Besides dermatology, Dr. Kraffert takes great pleasure in the old growth coastal forests, rivers, lakes, and mountains of Patagonia. He oversees a vast, untouched Southern Patagonia land reserve with an eye towards eco-tourism and away from mining and unsustainable forestry.
